Lindsey Carr is an artist based in Scotland. Her work is steeped in influences from the golden age of naturalist illustration, as such it is divergent from the intense realism of Ericson in that the creatures are imbued with a character through the way in which they are posed and interpreted. In the works of Audubon, etc, the rendering was often slightly askew from natural anatomy due to animals having been killed and posed. Here it is adopted as an aesthetic choice, that artist having made a considered decision to represent the animals as she sees them rather than exactly how they exist in reality. In this particular series Carr evokes a plethora of classic naturalist subjects. From the exotic and colorful private parts of a monkey to the slightly more graceful, yet equally vibrant, wings of tropical moths and birds. Set against jet black backgrounds these characters interact with their environment in ways that are both pleasing to the eye and intriguing to the mind.
